Westland Aquatic Planting & Potting Mix Peat Free (20L) is a specially blended, 100% peat-free mix designed to support the healthy development of all aquatic plants.

The mix contains a perfect balance of sterilised soil (loam), grit, and slow-release nutrients to provide long-life support. The heavy loam base aids nutrient retention, while the added grit ensures excellent anchorage, so your aquatic plants stay put and do not float away.

Crucially, this specialist mix is designed to prevent nutrient leaching into the water environment. This helps reduce the greening of pond water and inhibits algae production while providing sustained nutrition for your plants. It is the ideal choice for filling pond baskets and meets the specific needs of aquatic beauties like waterlilies, irises, and lotus flowers.

Tips & Advice

• Preventing Soil Dispersal: When you place your freshly potted aquatic plant in the water, some potting mix may naturally disperse. You can minimise the amount of compost that escapes into the pond by:

  1. Wet the compost thoroughly before filling the planter, basket, or container.

  2. Applying a heavy layer of horticultural grit on top of the Aquatic Compost once potted to hold everything down.
